Bentley History

Altermese Bentley Elementary School is a hidden gem among Sanford's educational options. Our school is named in honor of Altermese Smith Bentley, a dedicated educator, historian, and author who believed every student deserves a safe, nurturing environment in which to learn and grow. At Bentley, we carry that vision forward every day, creating a campus where students, families, and staff truly feel like part of one big family.
We proudly serve approximately 800-900 students from VPK through fifth grade. Guided by our motto, “We Do It Better Together,” we emphasize collaboration, respect, and support in everything we do—from classroom learning to schoolwide events and community partnerships. At Bentley, learning isn’t just about academics—it’s about growing together as a community.
